Using and filling Nespresso pods

Nespresso has spared no effort to align itself with today's very tendentious lifestyle: consuming "responsibly and ecologically". Known for its coffee machines, Nespresso is also a range of reusable pods that takes an active part in the fight against the deterioration of the environment.

Why use Nespresso pods?

They are economical and ecological

Nespresso reusable pods are economical. The pods to be filled are in fact much cheaper than the pre-dosed ones. The machine costs a little more, but it is worth buying. Ready-to-use coffee with this pod can be purchased from local roasters. With this type of pod, the coffee is prepared completely to your taste at a really affordable price. The price of coffee beans can be up to 7 times cheaper than single-use pods.

Ecologically speaking, if you use the reusable pods, you actively participate in the preservation and protection of the environment. Made of recyclable aluminium, Nespresso pods require very little packaging compared to disposable pods. A reusable aluminium pod has a lifespan of several years and can be used to prepare several hundred cups of coffee.

They are practical and easy to use

Reusable, the Nespresso pod is dishwasher safe. You can wash it manually with water and dry it in the open air. The only downside is the taste. Several users have indicated that the coffee loses its flavour.

If you treat yourself to the 100-pod kit, a pod holder is offered to you. It is a small tool used to handle the pod. It can also be used as a cup. Filling is done in a few steps:

  • Attach the pod to the supplied pod holder. The whole unit will turn into a real teaspoon, making it easier to take the ground coffee in your bag.
  • Take the coffee with the newly obtained teaspoon.
  • Disconnect the pod from the pod holder.
  • Be sure to pack well before closing the lid.
  • Place in the machine and brew!

Nespresso or Dolce-Gusto?

Both products are brands of the same Nestlé company. Although both are environmentally friendly zero waste coffee makers, there are some differences in both their shape and use.

They each have their own technique

Nespresso provides a higher pressure with 19 bars and its pod is larger, as it can hold up to 8 g of coffee. Gusto-Dolce provides a lower pressure with its 15 bars and its pod can only hold a maximum of 5 g.

A difference in the price level

Reusable pod machines cost a little more. Nespresso is the best known on the market and its notoriety makes it more expensive especially on the accessories side. It is essential, for example, to buy additional accessories to make milk foam. Dolce-Gusto already has all the necessary equipment to make coffee supplements.

The functionalities

The two coffeemakers do not have the same functionality. The Nespresso brand has focused on the production of coffee and all its variants. Dolce-Gusto, on the other hand, can offer all kinds of hot drinks, cold drinks, but also milk drinks.

And the environmental side?

Green and proud to be green

Nespresso proudly demonstrates to consumers that its new pods are truly compostable. These consumers have become more sensitive to the protection of the blue planet and are doing their utmost to impact the environment less. Nespresso's biodegradable pods are made with natural substances designed for rapid degradation: starch, vegetable fibers from sugar cane or corn combined with biodegradable plastic polymer (PLA).

Recyclable pods

The new Nespresso filling pods are recyclable as they are 100% compostable. This word is often heard in the field of environmental preservation and ecology. But what does it really mean? An object is compostable when it decomposes once it is integrated into a compost of industrial origin. The process takes place in a supervised environment where temperatures are maintained between 70 and 80°C with a supervised humidity level of 70% and an oxygen level of 20%.

Recycling when you got us

Nespresso pods are ecological and compostable. For the time being, its recycling has to be started in the industrial environment although some pods are starting to enter the market. It is necessary for consumers to check the label, which must clearly show the mention "compostable". The biodegradable mention does not have the same definition.

After use, you are invited to throw away your ecological pods:

  • In the trash can with the words "organic waste" posted on the bin. Especially if your city collects industrial waste.
  • In the garbage bin if your city does not yet collect organic waste.
  • In your own compost, but in this case its degradation may take a little longer.

Nespresso has long been considered the best coffee machine ever created. It has also been known to be very polluting because of the endless packaging of its pods. Now that Nespresso has decided to align itself with eco-friendly approaches, it hasn't done things by halves. The brand has released its 100% compostable organic pods. It's a revolutionary little marvel made without plastic or aluminium for the happiness of the ecologists.
